Why Wappy? A Website?

Dear Tops, read on and see why I was passionate to do this project

When given the challenge of creating a presentation based on something I was passionate on, I was so excited. My hobbies are such an intrinsic part of me, not a day goes by where I dont do deep dives into manga and videogames. I knew I wanted to touch upon something in those realms but wasnt sure what, and for that matter, HOW to present it.

Until it hit me, Im also passionate about the internet, not how it is, but how it was. Back in the early 2000s everyone carved their own space on the web, making colorful, customizable and entirely unique layouts through classic html/CSS coding. Now days through social media a lot of user spaces have become homogenized. Your creativity is bound within the confines of a usually minimalist layout, and other than personal posts, and some pre-determined spaces for banners and avatars, all user webpages are meant to look the same. Im looking to join the growing amount of users bringing back personal-sites, shrines, and little nooks and crannys of information to fight against the heavily competitive and monetized world of modern internet. While youre here on Why Wappy, you get to learn a little bit about a robo dog and the person who loves them.

And of course, why Wappy? What makes me so passionate about a Toy+Nintendo DS game from 12 years ago? For me, growing up, the internet was everything, and I made a home for myself on Neopets. It was on Neopets that I made friends (still going strong after 20 years,) played games (You could never beat me at Ice Cream Machine) and most importantly, learned html/css.

That love learning and growing virtual pet games stuck with me, and I bought Tamagotchis, I signed up for every pet site you could name, and then my eyes fell on a little robo dog named Wappy. Wappy felt like my Neopets coming to life both in the 3D models in the game, but most importantly, the robot itself. I could hear him bark, wiggle, I could feed him, and most importantly, I could hold him. I remember commentary from people saying that he, and my other toy and game loves were not real, and that may be, but my feelings for the toy certainly are, and thats more than enough to justify passion. So while youre here, you can learn a little bit more about the games main modes, some of the mini games you can play, a little on the toy itself, and who knows, maybe youll take up arms and make your own site! Or just find and love a Wappy, whichever you choose, I support you :)
